Survey Results Laud Hoven Community
Article By Mary Keller

"Why do you live in Hoven?" was the question the Hoven Service Club asked of the community several weeks ago as part of its "Promote Hoven" campaign. And it promised to publish the results of the survey assessing the strengths of our community.
The results are in and as Co-Chairman of the Service Club, Vern Rausch, stated, "We are very pleased with the response of the local citizens and the reasons they stated."
     Why live here?
To quote the reasons most often given, in no particular order: "it’s a safe place to live," "an excellent place to raise children," "affordable housing," "a community of strong organizations," "a small town atmosphere of kindness and willingness to help," "there is so much talent here and they share it so well," "no smog," "good hunting and fishing," "volunteer spirit," "a good place to retire," "economical living," "well-kept homes," and "everyone is your friend."
     Services abound
When asked in the survey what top five services are provided by the community, many mentioned the following: the medical services including hospital, clinic, emergency crews and other medical services such as optometry and various therapies; the excellent school system, both elementary and secondary; the churches; the excellent volunteer fire department; the professional services such as legal, insurance and banking; basic services such as the grocery, hardware and drug stores; farm related services such as repair shops, aerial spraying, trucking, chemical and seed supply stores; entertainment such as the pool, the park, the youth recreation program, and many school events and community events; other services such as gift shops, beauty shops, catering, the convenience store and steak house.
The Service Club survey committee is also compiling an inventory of available short and long term housing and asks anyone who has houses, apartments or rooms for sale or rent or trailer hook-ups to please leave a list at the Hoven Review or mail it to the Hoven Survey Committee at P.O. Box 404 in Hoven, SD 57450.
Rausch encourages everyone to check out the web site at www.hovensd.com for service club updates, more pictures from the 125th celebration, and the business, organization and community events pages included there.
